The One About Hound Dogs: Featured on With a Dog Podcast (again!)
We’re baaaack! After Carly and I had such a good time on my last episode on With a Dog Podcast, she asked me to come on again. With a Dog Podcast is one of the best dog podcasts out there, and I was honored to have the opportunity to come back on!
Our newest episode is more of a lighthearted conversation with our other friend, Ashley of Jonathan’s Journal. Together, we discuss our favorite subject: hounds! Our conversation covers everything from the revered and reviled roles that hound dogs have played throughout American history, personality traits unique to hound dogs, and our approaches to training our American Foxhounds. (Because let’s face it - hounds don’t learn the way other dogs do…at all…)
Whether you are as obsessed with hounds as the three of us are, or thinking about bringing home a hound dog and want to learn more, this episode has a little something for everyone!

Episode Description from With A Dog:
This week I speak with Charlotte and Ashley, who are two fellow foxhound dog moms but also two former guests of the podcast! This is a long episode because we wanted to talk about our hounds ALOT, which comes as a surprise to no-one.
This is a great episode if you have a hound dog or are curious about the hound breeds. We mainly talk about foxhounds and other large hound breeds but unfortunately weren’t able to talk about the history of all different hounds or some of the smaller hounds like beagles or bassets. However, much of the information about behavior is applicable to hound dogs on a whole.
EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:
Our dogs are genetically related!!
The history of foxhounds and how its intertwined with American history.
Their energy level isn't as high as you’d expect from a working breed.
They are very adaptable to new situations and overall very tolerant and independent which makes them great family dogs.
Why traditional training doesn't work very well for hounds.
How to train them passively, especially with vocal commands and through modeling behavior from other dogs.
Reasons why we love life with a dog!
